European Coatings Show 2017

European Coatings Show in Nuremberg on 04 April 2017: hundreds of exhibitors spread across seven halls, with the chemical and pigment industry occupying the largest space. Strongly represented: China. No private visitors, only trade visitors. 55 euros admission - thanks to RAL for the free ticket.

At the fair, important discussions could be held with manufacturers and suppliers, it was about colour fan production, colour measurement technology and publications of colour values and formulations.

Colour formulations are always dependent on the "colourants" (base colours) used by the respective manufacturers, and it therefore only makes sense to make them publicly available with a pigment reference.

Above all, it would make sense to make spectral data of colour systems available. For many systems we have already measured them. For CIE-Lab and CIE-HLC and other mathematically defined colour spaces, they can be generated by software.

Spectral data are more meaningful than Lab colour values. They describe a colour clearly and completely. Lab values, on the other hand, are only valid for one type of light and they do not contain any statement about metamerism. Spectral data are also the usual basis for colour formulation calculations.
