Wir stellen unsere Tools unter einer Creative-Commons- oder unter einer zlib-Lizenz zur Verfügung. Ziel ist eine kostenfreie und ungehinderte Nutzung unserer Daten und ggf. eine Integration in eigene (auch kommerzielle) Veröffentlichungen, wobei auch Modifikationen möglich sind. Es ist zu beachten, dass sowohl die Lizenz als auch der Urheber freieFarbe e.V. referenziert werden.
CreativeCommons Lizenz
Die CreativeCommons-Lizenz wird seit 2001 von der gemeinnützigen kalifornischen CreativeCommons Organisation definiert und hat Eingang in zahlreiche Bereiche gefunden, von Software über Bilddatenbanken zu Werken der Musik und Literatur. Es gibt mehrere Varianten, die eine unterschiedliche Strenge kennzeichnen: keine Veränderung (ND), keine kommerzielle Nutzung (NC), Nennung der Urheber (BY). Wir haben uns z.B. bei den Atlas-pdf-Dateien für die Version “CC BY ND 4.0” entschieden, welche die Nennung des Urhebers und Verweis auf die Lizenz vorschreibt, bei der Nutzungsart aber keine Vorschriften macht.

zlib Lizenz
Datenbankprodukte (z.B. freieFarbe HLC Colour Atlas cxf- oder ase-Dateien) veröffentlichen wir in zlib-Lizenz. Diese bietet gegenüber der CreativeCommons Lizenz eine noch weiter reichende Freiheit der Nutzung unserer Daten – also noch mehr freieFarbe. zlib wurde erstmals 1995 für die zlib Kompressionsbibliothek definiert und hat Eingang in viele weitere Softwarebereiche gefunden.
Die zlib-Lizenz ermöglicht eine kostenfreie Nutzung in allen denkbaren (auch kommerziellen) Varianten und die freie Veränderung unserer Daten. Eine Haftung für darin enthaltene Fehler schließen wir allerdings aus. In der Dokumentation ist der nachstehende Copyright-Hinweis unterzubringen, sowie ein Hinweis, falls unsere Original-Daten modifiziert wurden.
